Marlborough's Finance Committee approved a restructuring of the Recreation Department, creating a new recreation coordinator position.

TOWN -- The Finance Committee, meeting July 13, voted 5-0 to approve a city code amendment establishing a job description and salary ordinance for a new Recreation Coordinator position within the Recreation Department. According to a letter from Mayor J. Christian Dumas read into the record, the restructuring reinstates the assistant recreation director position and combines responsibilities from the former program manager and senior clerk roles into the new coordinator position. The changes were developed jointly by the Recreation Director, the Human Resources Department, the Mayor's office and the Marlborough Municipal Employees Association (MMEA), and the coordinator position will be placed on the same pay schedule as the head clerk position. A councilor speaking in support said the position is "very much needed down in the Recreation Department." The council president noted that combined with salary changes for the recreation director and assistant recreation director expected to come before the council the following Monday, the moves will require a roughly $39,000 transfer to cover the new positions. The committee also voted to suspend rules and advertise the ordinance change.
