Marlborough School Committee tables superintendent vote until March 11

MARLBOROUGH — March 3, 2025 — Marlborough School Committee tables superintendent vote to March 11 after interviewing two finalists. The committee questioned David Ljungberg, superintendent in Stoneham, and David Thompson, interim superintendent in Mashpee and a Marlborough High graduate, in roughly hourlong televised sessions Monday night. Ljungberg cited a $36 million Stoneham operating budget and an 80 percent vote for a $218 million high school debt exclusion; Thompson said he has managed budgets from $26 million in Mashpee to $58 million in Norwood. Member Ryan said early staff exit-ticket feedback looked "a little divided" and that she was "feeling a little torn," prompting the unanimous roll-call vote to delay. Thompson called the prospect of returning home "a full circle and an honor." Search consultant Patty Brown will notify both candidates. The meeting adjourned at 9 p.m.
