Marlborough School Committee tables superintendent vote until March 11

MARLBOROUGH -- March 3, 2025, Marlborough School Committee tables superintendent vote to March 11 after interviewing two finalists. The committee questioned David Ljungberg, superintendent in Stoneham, and David Thompson, interim superintendent in Mashpee and a Marlborough High graduate, in roughly hourlong televised sessions Monday night. Ljungberg cited a $36 million Stoneham operating budget and an 80 percent vote for a $218 million high school debt exclusion; Thompson said he has managed budgets from $26 million in Mashpee to $58 million in Norwood. Member Ryan said early staff exit-ticket feedback looked "a little divided" and that she was "feeling a little torn," prompting the unanimous roll-call vote to delay. Thompson called the prospect of returning home "a full circle and an honor." Search consultant Patty Brown will notify both candidates. The meeting adjourned at 9 p.m.
