Veterans Affairs Committee unanimously advances renewed Sudbury services agreement

MARLBOROUGH -- February 18, 2021, Marlborough committee advances renewed veterans services pact with Sudbury, 3-0. The Veterans Affairs Committee voted Feb. 18 to send Order 21-1008182 to the full City Council, renewing an intermunicipal agreement first struck in 2013 under MGL Chapters 40 and 115. Mayor Arthur Vigeant said the renewal raises Sudbury's payment to Marlborough and adds an updated cost-assessment review, but is otherwise "not big and lavish." Veterans Agent Mike Hennessy told Councilors Peter Orem and Samantha Perlman that Marlborough has roughly 5,000 veterans to Sudbury's estimated 1,000, including four current Chapter 115 recipients in Sudbury, and that he remains reachable "24 hours a day, seven days a week" by city-issued cell. City Solicitor Jason Grossfield said the agreement will be retroactive to July 1, 2020, with future annual extensions handled by a mayor-and-town-manager district board without further council votes.
