Finance Committee advances $10.27 million Marlborough capital bond package

MARLBOROUGH — July 8, 2024 — Marlborough Finance Committee advances $10.27 million capital bond and DPW succession-plan salary changes. The committee voted 4-0 on each piece of Mayor J. Christian Dumas's borrowing request, including $6 million for road, drainage and Fort Meadow Dam work, $2 million for Lincoln Street and Huntington Avenue water mains, $1 million for a new Ward Park splash pad and Hildreth wading pool rebuild, $500,000 to finish capping the old landfill, $350,000 for Evergreen Cemetery expansion, $300,000 to design two pump station upgrades, and $120,000 for Walker Building boilers. The Council President said the cemetery bond alone would carry roughly $221,000 in interest; Dumas agreed to return in September with a free-cash transfer to rescind that bond and the boiler bond, saying "I just want to make sure the project gets approved so we can get to work on them." Acting DPW Commissioner Ted Scott also won approval of salary ordinances creating a new capital projects manager position and restructuring pay for the DPW commissioner, assistant commissioner, city engineer and two library posts, all effective Sept. 1 at step one.
