Finance Committee approves $158,128 DPW transfer and assessor code change

MARLBOROUGH — March 29, 2021 — Marlborough Finance Committee clears $158,128 DPW transfer and rewrites principal assessor rules. The committee voted 5-0 on March 29 to approve Mayor Arthur Vigeant's transfer request covering a DPW superannuation retirement, pump-station chemicals, park maintenance, west-plant weekend overtime and a $50,000 line for legal expenses tied to long-running litigation with the town of Northborough over the westerly wastewater treatment plant. Vigeant said Marlborough's unreimbursed balance with Northborough is "well north of $10 million," with briefs due in court in April. The committee also voted 5-0 to amend Chapter 67, Section 28 to align principal assessor qualifications with the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers timeline, and approved an updated job description, advertised at $97,475.48 to $109,773.45, as the city weighs reducing its Regional Resource Group contract in place since 2012.
