Finance Committee approves Doheny's three-year comptroller contract and clerk reclassifications

MARLBOROUGH — December 8, 2025 — Marlborough Finance Committee unanimously approves three-year comptroller contract and collector's office reclassifications. The committee voted 5-0 on both orders Monday, backing a $20,695 transfer to fund Comptroller-Treasurer Brian Doheny's contract through fiscal 2026 and a $4,051.68 transfer to support a reclassified head clerk position in the collector's department. Mayor J. Christian Dumais credited Doheny with helping maintain the city's AAA bond rating, projected to save roughly $1.3 million in future borrowing costs. Councilor David Doucette called the contract "a no-brainer" but warned colleagues not to treat the Collins Center study as a blanket roadmap, saying salary surveys can be made to "tell you anything you want to hear." Councilor Samantha Perlman called comptroller-treasurer "probably one of the most important positions within the city." Both orders moved to the full Council with a suspension request.
