Finance Committee recommends first registrar stipend hike in Marlborough since 1989

MARLBOROUGH — July 25, 2022 — Marlborough Finance Committee backs first registrar stipend hike since 1989. The committee voted 5-0 Monday to recommend an amendment to Chapter 125-6 of the city code, submitted by City Clerk Stephen W. Kerrigan, equalizing Board of Registrars stipends at $500 per member and raising the assistant registrar's stipend from $486.25 to $750. The current chair stipend of $781 and $470 member stipends date to 1989. Kerrigan cited Chapter 92 of the Acts of 2022, which shortens the voter registration deadline to 10 days before an election and forces Saturday office hours staffed by the clerk and assistant clerk. "He's getting a couple of bucks an hour," Kerrigan said of the assistant registrar's current pay for 5 a.m.-to-10 p.m. election days. Funds are already in the FY23 clerk budget.
