Joint convention elects Christopher DeMaio to vacant School Committee seat

MARLBOROUGH — October 6, 2025 — Marlborough joint convention elects Christopher DeMaio to fill Heidi Adler Matthews' School Committee seat through January 2028. Eleven names were placed in nomination before the City Council and remaining School Committee members, with seven candidates present to give two-minute statements. The first ballot deadlocked at six votes for DeMaio, three for A.J. Darcy, two each for Adrian Gilbert and Robert Levine, and one each for Richard Wilcox III and Kimberly Cox — short of the eight needed with Ward 3 Councilor Robert Preciado absent. On the second ballot, DeMaio carried 13 of 15 members, and Ward 6 Councilor A. Trey Fuccillo moved to make the result unanimous. DeMaio, citing "20-plus years of non-profit board-level leadership" and a "kid-centric, kid-first mindset," was sworn in immediately by Mayor Dumas and will join the committee at its next meeting.
