Marlborough School Committee must cut $841,000 to meet mayor's budget

MARLBOROUGH — May 14, 2024 — Marlborough School Committee told it must cut $841,116 from FY25 budget. Superintendent Michael Bergeron reported Tuesday that Mayor J. Christian Dumas has forwarded $75,775,874 to the City Council, against the $76,616,990 figure (a 6.41 percent increase) the committee approved at its May 7 workshop, leaving an $841,116 gap to close once the city budget is finalized. Vice Chair Katherine Hennessey reported the Marlborough Education Association ratified a successor contract Tuesday with 98.5 percent in favor after months of interest-based bargaining; the committee will take its ratification vote in two weeks. Members unanimously renumbered policies AA through AD ahead of a new district website, accepted $6,960 in donations including $2,500 from Project Bread for summer feeding, and heard a student pitch to replace the high school track, which a prepared statement called "depressing."
