The 10-0 vote at Monday's meeting backed option NC 2a from the Richer School Building Committee, a step Mayor J. Christian Dumas called "necessary to move forward to the next phase of the MSBA process." The council also swore in Daniel R. Campbell, a 2006 department hire, as the city's first-ever deputy police chief, with Chief Giorgi calling it "a significant event for our department." Four mayoral transfer requests totaling roughly $1.78 million — including $612,390.56 for the Local 1714 firefighters' contract and $500,000 to cover a workers' compensation shortfall — were referred to Finance. A special permit for outdoor HVAC storage at 1000 Nickerson Road went to Urban Affairs after Councilor Kathleen D. Robey questioned whether the Limited Industrial district allows accessory storage absent on-site manufacturing.
