Marlborough School Committee files MSBA Statement of Interest for Richer Elementary

MARLBOROUGH — February 8, 2022 — Marlborough files MSBA Statement of Interest for Richer Elementary amid 270-student enrollment surge. Superintendent Michael Bergeron told the School Committee on Feb. 8 that district enrollment has climbed 5.82 percent since Oct. 1 — the highest level since 2004 — with Goodnow Elementary alone at roughly 757 students under Principal Mo Curran. The committee authorized an SOI seeking MSBA funding to address overcrowding and replace Richer's HVAC, plumbing, windows and roof, noting K-5 enrollment of 2,478 already exceeds the 2015 projection of 2,260 for FY26. Mayor Arthur Vigeant abstained, saying he wanted to "dig further into it." The committee also raised substitute teacher pay to $110 a day, $120 for licensed substitutes and $190 a day for the longest-term assignments, and amended the superintendent job description to require "demonstrated management and leadership experience" after member Daniel Matthews objected that the draft had "nothing about leadership."
