School Committee adopts strategy plan, awards Aramark five-year food contract

MARLBOROUGH — June 13, 2023 — Marlborough School Committee adopts its Strategy for Improvement and awards Aramark a new five-year food service contract. Superintendent Dr. Scaza told members the strategy, first published in 2019 and updated in January, had driven district planning for years but had never been formally approved. Business Administrator Mr. Diaz said Aramark was the sole RFP respondent; a four-person team including food service managers Dalamora and Butler recommended the deal, with Richer School hitting 80 percent participation in May. Members also approved the MHS football overnight at Eagle Hill (Aug. 25) and boys soccer scrimmages in Connecticut. Freshman SAC rep Atul Mador relayed that Assistant Principal Mr. Bishop told ninth graders roughly 41 percent are failing at least one class — a figure that prompted a member to call for mid-year, not just end-of-year, class meetings. Kane Principal Ms. Berry, stepping down as union president, warned the district's testing load is "down to almost the minute."
