Urban Affairs Committee advances pickleball complex permit on Airport Boulevard
MARLBOROUGH — September 24, 2024 — Marlborough committee advances pickleball complex and Best Western sign permits to full council. The Urban Affairs Committee voted unanimously Sept. 24 to send a special permit for Ambidextrous Ventures LLC's six-court, 19,950-square-foot indoor pickleball facility at 119 Airport Boulevard, plus a small outdoor court and 76 parking spaces, to the city solicitor for final language review. Attorney Pamela Brown, representing owners Steve Suarez and Elaine Chin, told councilors the nearest abutters sit more than 700 feet from the outdoor court. The committee capped indoor hours at 5:30 a.m. to midnight, restricted outdoor play to the later of dawn or 7 a.m. through 9 p.m., and limited alcohol to "single-serve, low alcohol beverages" sold inside the building from 11 a.m. to midnight. Members also approved an LED sign replacement at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel, whose existing 40-square-foot sign was destroyed by lightning. Both items are expected back before the full City Council on Oct. 7.
