Council sends $361,080 cable funding, fire station reserve to Finance Committee

MARLBOROUGH — February 28, 2022 — Marlborough council refers $361,080 WMCT funding and West Side fire station reserve to Finance Committee. The City Council voted 11-0 on Feb. 28 to send Mayor Arthur Vigeant's $361,080.93 transfer from PEG funds to the Marlborough Cable Trust — covering WMCT-TV's fiscal year 2023 operations — to Finance, with Councilor John J. Irish filing a conflict-of-interest disclosure before moving the referral. The council also approved $1,652,616 in mid-year transfers on a unanimous vote following a 5-0 Finance Committee recommendation, accepted a $24,999 state grant for fire department multi-jurisdictional communications, and reappointed Police Chief David Giorgi for a four-year term to August 2025. A Camuso Enterprises petition to operate the Shell station at 431 Lincoln Street was approved at 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. rather than 24 hours. Vigeant said citywide COVID-19 cases are down to 17, calling it "all good news." The council adjourned at 8:20 p.m. into closed session on WP Marlboro Mass Owner LLC v. Marlborough City Council.
