Finance Committee approves $1.6 million in capital transfers from free cash

MARLBOROUGH — June 12, 2023 — Marlborough Finance Committee unanimously advances $1.6 million in free-cash transfers before June 30 deadline. The committee voted 5-0 on each of six departmental requests totaling $1,598,076.10 from Mayor Arthur Vigeant, then suspended the rules so the full City Council can act June 26. The package includes $701,000 for the DPW — five replacement vehicles and a wash bay upgrade, with Assistant Commissioner Brian Scott noting one Sterling truck is already out of service because the manufacturer stopped making parts seven years ago — plus $380,000 for IT firewall, Nimble storage and FortiNAC work, $325,076.10 for three hybrid police cruisers, 31 vests and 60 Tasers, $152,000 for new tabulators and voting booths citywide, $25,000 for fire-station mattresses, and $15,000 for galvanized veterans square signs. City Clerk Steve Kerrigan said Massachusetts "is a paper-ballot state, and as far as I can tell it will remain a paper-ballot state."
