Finance Committee endorses special traffic constable role for retired Marlborough officers

MARLBOROUGH — July 31, 2023 — Marlborough Finance Committee unanimously backs special traffic constable role for retired officers. The committee voted 4-0 on Order 23-108937, a mayor's proposal at the request of Police Chief David Giorgi to amend City Code Chapter 125 and let retired Marlborough officers ages 65 to 70 work paid traffic details with no police powers. Lt. Dan Campbell, presenting for Giorgi, said the department expects an initial pool of six to 10 constables paid $62.50 per hour — matching the special officer rate — in two four-hour blocks, with private contractors funding details through the city. Councilor Michael Ossing said he would "rather see the special police rather than out-of-towners" doing the work. Chair Donald Irish then requested suspension of the rules to bring the order before the full council the same night.
