Finance Committee approves $261,000 in transfers for city labor contracts

MARLBOROUGH — August 4, 2025 — Marlborough Finance Committee unanimously approves $261,000 in transfers funding two ratified union contracts. The panel voted 4-0 on a $20,750 transfer to fund the educational incentive portion of the Marlborough Municipal Employees Association agreement, and 4-0 on a $240,733.22 transfer to fund the fiscal 2025 collective bargaining agreement with Local 1714 of the International Association of Firefighters. Both transfers come from the reserve for salaries account. Mayor J. Christian Dumais wrote that the MMEA education incentive "reflects our commitment to recognizing and rewarding the educational achievements among our employees," and credited Fire Chief Breen, Assistant Chiefs Gogan and Emanuelson, and HR Director Christine Purple for the firefighters' deal. Councilor Laura Brown, who moved approval on both items, called the funding source "a really appropriate use of funds." The meeting ran six minutes.
