Marlborough adopts MBTA multifamily overlay in one-night 11-0 vote

MARLBOROUGH — October 7, 2024 — Marlborough City Council adopts MBTA multifamily housing overlay 11-0 in a single evening. Urban Affairs and Housing Chair Kathleen D. Robey moved the new Section 37A of Chapter 650 through first reading, enrollment and ordination without objection, after committee revisions that make affordable units in the district affordable "in perpetuity." The council also denied Mayor J. Christian Dumais's $1 million recreational facilities bond on the Finance Committee's recommendation, 11-0, and postponed an $858,941 transfer for the Ferrell wading pool to Oct. 21 so it can be weighed alongside Ward Park pool plans. Vice President Sean A. Navin reported municipal aggregation customers saved more than $884,000 in the second quarter at 14 cents per kilowatt-hour and projected $2.6 million in 2024 savings. A Best Western LED sign special permit also passed 11-0.
