Marlborough City Council approves McDonald's drive-thru special permit on Route 20

MARLBOROUGH — April 14, 2025 — Marlborough councilors approve McDonald's drive-thru on Boston Post Road East and confirm a permanent DPW commissioner. The City Council voted 9-0 Monday to grant McDonald's USA a special permit for a restaurant with drive-thru at 735 Boston Post Road East, attaching 19 conditions including 5 a.m.-to-2 a.m. operating hours, no overnight parking, and noise-adjusting drive-thru speakers; Ward 2 Councilor David Doucette recused. The board also unanimously confirmed Theodore L. Scott, the city's acting commissioner since 2016 in assistant and acting roles, as DPW commissioner for a five-year term, with Vice President Sean A. Navin calling the appointment overdue. A continued public hearing on Raimundo Neto's request to rezone 36 Jefferson Street for an 11-unit condo drew four neighbors in opposition; attorney James McMahon said the project had been cut "55 percent" from an earlier 20-unit plan. The rezoning was sent to Urban Affairs.
