Marlborough council accepts $11,250 in gifts, refers DPW and fire chief job descriptions

MARLBOROUGH — November 3, 2025 — Marlborough City Council accepts $11,250 in gifts and welcomes Akiruno sister-city delegation. The council voted 10-0 on Nov. 3 to accept a $10,000 Carnegie Corporation grant for the public library marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and a $1,250 Marlborough Foundation gift to the Council on Aging for senior food insecurity. At-Large Councilor Mark A. Oram noted Marlborough received Carnegie funding when its library was built in 1902. Mayor J. Christian Dumais proclaimed each visiting Akiruno student an honorary citizen, and delegation head Yasunori Takahashi told councilors the students would "make a lot of good memories" during the weeklong homestay. The council also referred proposed job descriptions for three DPW general foreman positions and the fire chief to the Personnel Committee, and set a Nov. 17 public hearing on a National Grid petition for two new Elm Street utility poles.
