Marlborough council allows Boston Scientific to withdraw Sasseville Way rezoning 6-5

MARLBOROUGH — December 4, 2023 — Marlborough council narrowly clears Boston Scientific withdrawal as average tax bill falls $189. The City Council voted 6-5 to allow Boston Scientific Corporation and applicant Trammell Crow Company to withdraw without prejudice the Sasseville Way Residential Overlay District petition, over objections from Urban Affairs Chair Kathleen Robey, who wanted an outright denial to trigger a two-year bar under MGL Chapter 40A on a parcel assessed at $525,000 near Fort Meadow Reservoir. Council President Michael Ossing called a denial "a poke in the eye" to the city's second-largest taxpayer; Mayor-elect Christian Dumais joined the yes votes. Earlier, councilors unanimously set a residential rate of $10.24 and a CIP rate of $17.67 with a 1.44 shift, on Mayor Arthur Vigeant's projection that the average single-family bill would fall $189 and the average commercial bill nearly $5,953. The council also referred a $2 million Richer School feasibility transfer to Finance and ordained a Marlborough Village District amendment setting affordable housing at 12 percent.
