Marlborough council refers Sartorius biotech TIF to Finance Committee

MARLBOROUGH -- November 13, 2023, Marlborough council sends Sartorius TIF to Finance and accepts $1.35M Winthrop Street grant. The City Council voted 10-0 Monday to refer a proposed tax increment financing agreement with Sartorius, the global biopharmaceutical company, to the Finance Committee, which meets Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Sartorius plans a North American Center for Bioprocess Solutions at 200 Donald J. Lynch Boulevard. Ward 2 Councilor David Doucette called it an example of being "business-friendly, specifically with biotech." Councilors also accepted a $1,350,000 state grant for Winthrop Street infrastructure, approved a $1,115,294 transfer from meals-tax revenue to cover parks-and-recreation bond payments, and voted 9-0, with one recusal, to direct President Michael H. Ossing to write the state Division of Banks opposing a check-cashing license at 147 Main Street. The annual tax classification hearing was set for Dec. 4 at 8 p.m.
