Marlborough School Committee approves $69.5 million FY23 budget, accepts Quest Diagnostics gift

MARLBOROUGH — March 22, 2022 — Marlborough approves $69.5M FY23 budget, accepts $97,350 Quest gift, closes door on school choice. The School Committee unanimously sent a $69,479,713 budget — a 4.24 percent increase — to Mayor Arthur Vigeant after a public hearing drew no speakers. Quest Diagnostics VP Karthik Kupasamy presented a $97,350 donation funding SAT and AP prep for up to 300 Marlborough High students over two years; 60 are already enrolled. Superintendent Michael Bergeron recommended against opening school choice, citing enrollment now over 5,000 students after a six percent jump since Feb. 1. Principal Dr. Daniel Riley won approval for a revised Program of Studies adding early college courses, a Personal Care Assistant certification with The Branches, a residential carpentry certification, and three Microsoft Office credentials. MEDC director Meredith Harris called the Quest gift "the ice bucket challenge" for other Marlborough employers.
