Marlborough School Committee approves Voices Required Orlando trip, honors three seniors

MARLBOROUGH — October 26, 2021 — Marlborough School Committee honors three seniors and approves Voices Required trip to Orlando. Superintendent Michael Bergeron presented the 2021 MASS Award to senior Heath Sonio (4.82 GPA), and Principal Dan Riley presented National School Development Council awards to Courtney Sweeney (4.94) and Caitlin Lee (4.83). The committee unanimously approved Music Director Jonathan Rosenthal's request to send the Voices Required vocal ensemble to a national festival in Florida, after Rosenthal said the department wanted to "start small and build it back" after the pandemic. Finance Director Doug Dias moved $67,624 in salary-reserve transfers across seven schools — largest at Marlborough High ($20,962) and Whitcomb ($16,375) — to cover lane changes and custodial overtime, and laid out an FY23 budget calendar running Feb. 8 through April 1. Assistant Superintendent Liz O'Brien reported an 8 percent year-over-year jump in English learner enrollment with 85 more students still registering.
