Marlborough School Committee ratifies five-year extension for finance director Diaz

MARLBOROUGH — February 23, 2021 — Marlborough School Committee ratifies five-year Diaz extension as active COVID cases drop to five. The committee voted 7-0 Tuesday to ratify a five-year contract extension for Director of Finance and Operations Doug Diaz and a two-year SEIU cafeteria workers contract running through June 30, 2022, both previously approved in executive session. Member Mary Ellen Matthews said Diaz "exceeded our expectations a little bit." Superintendent Michael Bergeron reported active cases had fallen from 10 to five in a week, with one classroom quarantined, and said he would bring a full elementary-return plan to the committee. Members also approved $47,745 in district-wide transfers and a $123,000 special education transfer covering staffing-agency costs and tutoring overages, and heard plans to use ESSER II funds for HVAC overhauls at Jaworek and Kane elementary schools.
