Marlborough School Committee approves House as Whitcomb principal, receives FY22 budget

MARLBOROUGH — March 9, 2021 — Marlborough names Angela House as next Whitcomb School principal and pushes back on state's April 5 elementary return order. The School Committee on Tuesday heard the superintendent's appointment of House, a Marlborough High graduate who joined the district in 2012 as a Whitcomb art teacher and has been assistant principal there since 2017. The superintendent also announced that the district's quarantine rules will conform to state DPH guidance March 15, abandoning a stricter local rule that had quarantined entire classrooms; 15 active COVID cases remain district-wide. Member Denise Ryan called Commissioner Jeffrey Riley's April 5 elementary mandate "a power grab," and member Katherine Hennessey said the district should "stay our own course." Director of Finance Doug Diaz delivered the FY22 budget request; a workshop is set for March 24, with a public hearing April 27.
