Marlborough special education audit yields zero findings from DESE reviewer

MARLBOROUGH — March 23, 2021 — Marlborough special education audit clears DESE review with zero findings. Special Education Director Maureen O'Brien told the School Committee on March 23 that DESE reviewer Corey Steinman, who examined 10 student records on March 10, indicated he did not expect any findings for correction — a result he called "very rare." Steinman, who also led the district's 2013 review, called the IEPs "beautifully and thoughtfully written" and praised the Family Success Partnership and proposed wraparound coordinator as filling "a missing link in education." Superintendent Michael Bergeron used the same meeting to walk through the April 5 elementary full-return plan, with about 78 students moving back from remote and new third- and fourth-grade sections added at Goodnow and Jaharis. The committee approved roughly $50,800 in FY21 budget transfers, including $21,100 to fund 3D printers for the Marlborough High science department.
