Marlborough School Committee sends bullying, hazing policies to first reading

MARLBOROUGH — August 23, 2022 — Marlborough School Committee advances bullying, discipline policies and calls Aug. 30 special meeting. Meeting with four of seven members present, the committee sent seven policies to first reading — including bullying (1.300), student discipline (8.130), student conduct (8.140) and hazing (8.145) — and kept three others, including DNR comfort care and homeless education, on the table. Policy Subcommittee Chair Jaime Hennessey said the full committee should vote on final adoption, calling "in consultation" language in the bullying draft "a little bit squishy" as parent Kevin Maciulli urged three amendments, including notifying parents of the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's problem resolution system regardless of investigation outcome. Superintendent Michelle Murphy reported renovations at the Early Childhood Center, Richer and Whitcomb schools and a new Whitcomb vaccination clinic area. The special meeting is set for Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m., one day before classes begin.
