Marlborough School Committee appoints Mary Murphy superintendent under three-year contract

MARLBOROUGH — July 12, 2022 — Marlborough installs Mary Murphy as superintendent and elevates Robert Scasa to top academic deputy. The School Committee on July 12 unanimously appointed Murphy under a three-year contract and accepted outgoing Superintendent Michael Bergeron's recommendation of Dr. Robert Scasa, the longtime Richer Elementary principal, as assistant superintendent of teaching and learning pending contract talks. Bergeron, in a report read by Murphy, said Scasa would "first meet and then exceed every expectation" for the role. Murphy also named Lisa Richards as interim principal at Richer and shifted veteran administrator Wayne Labby in as assistant principal. Director of Finance and Operations Doug Diaz reported that first-round estimates for the Cain and Jaworek HVAC projects came in roughly $2 million short of the $6.4 million in federal ESSER money earmarked for the work, and members approved $34,125 in FY22 transfers from a vacant nurse coordinator line. The committee also ratified a three-year successor contract with SEIU Local 888 cafeteria workers.
