Personnel Committee approves four mayoral appointments on 3-0 votes

MARLBOROUGH — June 20, 2023 — Marlborough Personnel Committee advances four mayoral appointments 3-0. The committee unanimously cleared reappointments of Wiring Inspector John Kane and Plumbing and Gas Inspector Robert Born III, both to three-year terms, and new appointments of Patrick Hughes to the Planning Board for a five-year term expiring Feb. 1, 2028, and Jonathan Friedman to the Commission on Disabilities for three years. Kane, an eight-and-a-half-year incumbent, said his two part-time assistants completed roughly 70 inspections during a recent week he was out. Born, on the job since May 1, reported 10 to 15 inspections a day and said an alternate inspector from Natick covers his absences. Hughes, formerly of the Wilmington Finance Committee, cited 17 years in corporate finance at firms including TripAdvisor and Bank of New York Mellon. Friedman, a former project manager on medical disability, said he is "looking for a new purpose." The committee reports out June 26.
