Urban Affairs Committee backs Bolton Street Tavern gazebo and outdoor bar permit

MARLBOROUGH — April 20, 2022 — Marlborough Urban Affairs backs Bolton Street Tavern gazebo and outdoor bar, 4-0. The committee, chaired by Councilor Kathleen Robey, recommended approval of a modified 2013 special permit for 587 Bolton Street Inc. to add a gazebo, outdoor bar, fire pit and sports area at the Fort Meadow Reservoir site, raising total seating to 126 outdoors and roughly 200 indoors against 198 on-site parking spaces. Owner John Stornaris said food would come from the main kitchen, alcohol would be returned inside nightly, and two self-contained mobile sinks would serve the outdoor bar. Added conditions require conservation-approved plantings with a two-year look-back, downward-shielded lighting, and no-smoking signs at all outdoor service areas. Councilor Sean Navin urged the operator to monitor lighting and sound because "things tend to travel across the water." Chair Robey will seek a suspension at Monday's City Council meeting to expedite final approval.
