Urban Affairs postpones hobby vehicle storage zoning amendment for redraft

MARLBOROUGH — September 20, 2021 — Marlborough's Urban Affairs Committee postponed action on a hobby vehicle storage zoning amendment after a buyer's letter raised museum and fundraiser plans. The committee voted 5-0 to delay Order 21-1008344, which would add hobby vehicle storage as a warehousing use in the limited industrial district under Chapter 650, Sections 5 and 1836. A letter from Carol Deal Oliveria of the Stevens Family Foundation described plans to display rare watches, Star Wars memorabilia and a 1966 Batmobile and host meetings and fundraisers — language the chair said "implies to me their desire to do more than warehouse vehicles." Councilor Doucet pressed for tighter definitions around fuel, ammunition, registration and restoration. The Planning Board, under Chair Barbara Finby, had voted favorably Sept. 13 but urged a strict ban on commercial auto sales. Attorney Falk said a council vote is needed by Oct. 4. The committee also approved 5-0, twice, two illuminated flat-roof signs at Val's Plaza, 561 Boston Post Road East.
