Urban Affairs recommends Raising Cane's drive-thru permit in 5-0 vote

MARLBOROUGH — August 16, 2021 — Marlborough Urban Affairs advances Raising Cane's permit over McDonald's objections. The committee voted 5-0 Monday to recommend a special permit for a dual-lane drive-thru restaurant at 141 Boston Post Road West, rejecting a last-minute request from abutter McDonald's Corporation to continue the hearing. Attorney Michael Bragwin said the four-item chain moves customers through the drive-thru in roughly two and a half minutes. Attorney William Squires, for McDonald's, asked that five modifications — including one-way counterclockwise circulation and a narrowed drive-thru exit — be imposed as conditions; engineer Eric DeBruyl of Bowler Engineering said the one-way proposal would eliminate 14 parking spaces and create "a very confusing situation." Approved hours run to 3:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The full council vote is set for Sept. 13. The committee also approved special permits for De Silva Landscaping and Loriball Masonry at the Airport Industrial Park and a 12-seat patio at the Alltown Fresh store on Route 20, while postponing a long-pending 24-hour permit request for the Shell station at 431 Lincoln Street.
