City Council approves revised McGee Farm 140-unit permit under Land Court remand

MARLBOROUGH — September 12, 2022 — Marlborough council approves revised 140-unit McGee Farm permit 10-1 under Land Court remand. The City Council accepted six mediated conditions on WP Marlborough Mass Owner LLC's special permit for 339 Boston Post Road East, including a $200,000 traffic-safety payment, a $20,000 trail study, a $20,000 shared-transit study, an April 14, 2023 construction-start floor, an affordability increase from 15 to 20 percent, and four EV charging stations. City Solicitor Jason Grossfield described the deal as "the culmination of a months-long mediation effort" with a retired Land Court judge. Councilor Wagner, who voted no on the original four-building, 188-unit proposal, told colleagues a court loss would forfeit every concession: "It's about accepting what came out of mediation … or placing our fate solely in the hands of a judge." Ward 1 Councilor Mark A. Oram cast the lone no vote, citing accident data on Route 20.
