Finance Committee approves deputy police chief post, $6 million in transfers

MARLBOROUGH — June 2, 2025 — Marlborough Finance Committee unanimously backs new police deputy chief and clears $6 million in transfers. The panel voted 5-0 to recommend a Chapter 125 ordinance amendment creating a non-union deputy chief role at a step-one salary of $165,000, with Police Chief David Giorgi telling members the position fills a "second-in-command" gap flagged by the Collins Center in 2022. The committee also approved $1,321,219 from free cash to cover the snow and ice deficit, $19,500 into the open space stabilization account and $335,000 in DPW reallocations. On a separate $4,351,873 capital package from Mayor J. Christian Dumas, members signed off on $1.8 million in DPW equipment, $300,000 for a sewer hydraulic model, $811,585 in IT and school technology, and $440,288 for police cruisers, vests, Tasers and a parking-lot fence. The $1 million Ward Park pool rebuild passed 4-1 after Councilor Laura Vidal's splash-pad substitute died for lack of a second; Dumas said residents demanded the pool "loud and clear."
