Marlborough council confirms new DPW commissioner, approves capital transfers

MARLBOROUGH — October 5, 2020 — Marlborough council confirms new DPW commissioner and advances $440,000 Elm Street land buy. The City Council unanimously approved Sean Duvall as Department of Public Works commissioner for a five-year term starting at step two of the salary schedule, on a Personnel Committee recommendation reported by Councilor Joseph Delano Dumas. By a 9-2 vote — Councilors Kathleen Robey and Tenera opposed — the council transferred $440,000 from the Economic Development special revenue fund to the MEDC to acquire 481 Elm St. as a possible west-side fire station site. Robey said a planned subdivision driveway "near where it intersects with Bigelow" would worsen "an intersection that is already dangerous." The council also approved $569,190 in free-cash capital transfers for fire PPE, station cameras, police cruisers and a DPW freightliner, ordained a comptroller salary ordinance setting a $147,000 maximum, and extended the Waypoint Residential McGee Farm special permit deadline to Jan. 20, 2021.
