Marlborough Finance Committee unanimously advances $1.64 million mid-year transfer package

MARLBOROUGH — March 6, 2023 — Marlborough Finance Committee unanimously advances $1.64M mid-year transfer package. The committee voted 5-0 on March 6 to recommend Mayor Arthur G. Vigeant's $1,643,050 transfer order, including $730,500 for the Department of Public Works, $156,803 to cover an amended Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School assessment delivered after FY23 budget adoption, and roughly $159,100 for four police and one firefighter retirements plus $235,000 for anticipated contract negotiations. DPW Commissioner Sean Divoll said roughly $475,000 of his department's transfer comes from lower-than-budgeted sludge disposal at the east and west wastewater plants, while overtime is up because the city is "trading the vacancies … for the overtime cost." The committee also voted 5-0 to raise the Public Safety Revolving Fund cap from $120,000 to $203,000, funded by Patriot Ambulance's $116,869.80 annual dispatch fee, and 5-0 to lift the senior tax workoff credit from $1,000 to $1,500 for 100 hours of work.
