Marlborough Personnel Committee advances seven mayoral appointments in 25-minute meeting

MARLBOROUGH — January 24, 2023 — Marlborough Personnel Committee advances seven mayoral appointments, including new HR director. The committee on Jan. 24 voted 3-0 on each item, confirming John Harman as human resources director for a three-year term; Harman, who started Dec. 5 and has 11 years of municipal HR experience, told the committee the biggest issue facing the field is demographic, with "the largest working population aged 58, the next largest 59" and so on. Library trustees Samantha Koshla and Fred Haas were reappointed and used their interviews to detail accessibility upgrades and expanded community programming at the new library, which Haas said could "kick off the whole sort of renaissance" of Main Street. Joseph Delano and Elizabeth Jolonski were advanced to the Board of Registrars of Voters on staggered terms; attorney Dylan LaForce, 30, was appointed to the Planning Board; and Renee Picardo, on the Community Development Authority since 2015, was reappointed in absentia. Three other appointments were deferred because the nominees did not attend. The committee adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
