Marlborough School Committee Approves $6,600 in Donations at Routine February Meeting

MARLBOROUGH -- February 27, 2024, Marlborough School Committee accepts two donations and hears busing, grant updates. The committee voted unanimously at its February 27 meeting to accept a $6,100 gift from Seeds Inc. and a $500 donation from the Kids in Need Foundation for a Richer school. Superintendent Mary Murphy reported the district has received grants exceeding $4 million for the current fiscal year, alongside more than $29,000 in cash contributions and over $11,000 in donated goods. Director of Finance and Operations Mr. LaFleur reported that busing contractor NRT has effectively lost four drivers, one resigned, one is on extended medical leave and not expected to return, and two routes have been without permanent drivers for an extended period, with four replacement drivers currently in training. January lunch participation reached 78 percent of students, a program record according to LaFleur. The committee's policy subcommittee, comprising members Earl, Dan, and a third unnamed colleague, is set to begin a district-wide policy cataloging effort in March ahead of a transition to a new school website.
