MARLBOROUGH — May 24, 2022 — Marlborough committee hears weight room pitch, scrambles to fill assistant superintendent role. Outgoing senior class president Adam Hussain, headed to Yale to study mechanical engineering, used his final Student Advisory Council report to ask the School Committee to renovate the Marlborough High School weight room, citing rusted bars, jumping dumbbell weights and poor ventilation; member Katherine Hennessey pressed for a female faculty supervisor to broaden access. The committee unanimously approved roughly $27,670 in FY22 transfers, including $11,250 from Jaworek's nurse line and $8,150 district-wide from a copy-machine line. Pupil Personnel Services Director Cheryl O'Brien disclosed the district's bullying prevention plan posted online dated to December 2010; parent Kevin Macchiuli of 58 Ridge Road called it "a step backwards" and renewed his call for an independent family advocate. Member Denise Ryan Matthews was designated to lead screening for the assistant superintendent vacancy before Mary Murphy assumes the superintendent role July 1.
