Personnel Committee approves DPW foreman job descriptions with OSHA addition

MARLBOROUGH — November 13, 2025 — Marlborough Personnel Committee clears DPW and fire chief job descriptions, adds OSHA safety mandate. The committee voted 2-0 Thursday to approve updated job descriptions for general foreman positions in the Department of Public Works' Fleet Maintenance, Forestry/Parks/Cemetery and Streets divisions, then 2-0 again on a new fire chief description, both drawn from the Collins Center study. DPW Commissioner Scott said one foreman role has been vacant nearly two years and called the descriptions "the final piece to the leadership team." Councilor Oram won an amendment elevating a 30-hour OSHA certification from preferred to required, to be obtained within 12 months. "You can't replace an eye when you're dealing with safety," Oram said. The committee will ask the full council to suspend the rules Monday to speed hiring.
