City Council asks state to deny Keno monitors at two Marlborough shops

MARLBOROUGH -- January 22, 2024, Marlborough City Council renews opposition to Keno monitors at two convenience stores. The council voted 10-0 Monday to have Council President Michael H. Ossing send a letter to the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission opposing monitors at Pleasant Street Smoke Shop and Monty's Mini, while reiterating no objection to Keno-to-Go. At-Large Councilor Kathleen D. Robey made the motion, citing past correspondence on the same question. Ward 6 Councilor A. Trey Fuccillo said a second monitored site in the same plaza as Chestnut Convenience "doesn't really add much to the community." The council also approved a $158,300 reserve-for-salaries transfer to fund retirements in the police, public works and recreation departments, and referred $140,000 in further transfers, $40,000 for a website redesign and $100,000 in PEG funds for WMCT, to Finance, which meets Jan. 29.
