Marlborough City Council refers $1.2 million in mid-year transfers to Finance

MARLBOROUGH — February 12, 2024 — Marlborough councilors send $1.2M in mid-year transfers and a new opioid fund to Finance. The City Council voted 11-0 on Feb. 12 to refer Mayor J. Christian Dumas's $1,202,100 FY24 transfer package to its Finance Committee, alongside a $162,202.95 transfer from free cash to seed a new Opioid Settlement Special Revenue Fund. Councilor Mark A. Oram said the settlement money had been sitting in the general account and said he "would not want to see this money spent on anything but opioid use disorder." Councilors also referred to Finance an ordinance amendment creating a Communications and Special Projects Director, with a $25,900 transfer to fund the position through June; Councilor David Doucette called it "long overdue." Under suspension of the rules, the council separately approved a $40,000 free-cash transfer for a city website redesign. The meeting ended in executive session on JW Capital Partners litigation, with Ward 3 Councilor Robert Preciado recused as an abutter.
