Marlborough council opens hearing on extending housing moratorium through year's end

MARLBOROUGH — November 8, 2021 — Marlborough council president and Urban Affairs chair signal opposition to extending housing moratorium past Dec. 31. Mayor Arthur Vigeant asked the City Council on Nov. 8 to extend the multifamily housing moratorium through year's end while state MBTA-community guidance remains pending, but At-Large Councilor Kathleen Robey, who chairs Urban Affairs, said the council has demonstrated it can deny projects without a freeze, citing the Walcott, WoHo and commercial village overlay denials. "We don't really need this moratorium," Robey said. The hearing closed without a vote and returned to Urban Affairs, which met the following evening. The council unanimously approved special permits for Aubuchon Realty's two Wayside Crossing drive-throughs at 661 Boston Post Road East and Post Road Mobile Home Park's division of 181 Boston Post Road East into two parks, plus a one-year extension to Feb. 10, 2023 for the 28 South Bolton Street mixed-use project.
