Personnel Committee clears Dahlin's return as Marlborough comptroller

MARLBOROUGH — February 19, 2025 — Marlborough Personnel Committee unanimously backs former comptroller Brian Dahlin's return after 14-month vacancy. The panel voted 3-0 on Feb. 19 to recommend Mayor J. Christian Dumas's appointment of Dahlin as city comptroller/treasurer for a three-year term beginning March 31, placing him at step 7 and granting an additional week of vacation. Council President Michael Ossing, calling it a "win-win for Marlborough," credited Dahlin's earlier seven-year tenure with driving the stabilization fund from $16 million to $28 million, the OPEB trust from $11 million to $23 million, and securing the city's triple-A bond rating. Dahlin, most recently town administrator in Ashburnham, said he wanted to refocus on municipal finance: "My goal was never to be a town administrator." The committee also advanced 3-0 appointments of Douglas E. Philpot to the Zoning Board of Appeals, E. William Baker as tenant representative on the Community Development Authority replacing 10-year member Paul Salini, and Anne Mikan to the Council on Aging.
